Changing behavior is a skill that can be learned: a look back at La Fresque du Facteur Humain

Last week, I participated in a workshop unlike any other: Fresque du Facteur Humain , as part of the "Complètement Fresque!" evening at the Maison du Développement Durable, in Montreal.


Three hours of collective intelligence. Three hours spent sharing perspectives, thinking outside the box, analyzing our behaviors, putting words to our inhibitions, and taking a step back to reflect on what guides our choices and actions on a daily basis. In short, three hours to get back to what really matters .


A method in service of meaning

The Human Factors Fresco, offered by Université du Facteur Humain , is a collaborative workshop that helps to understand the cognitive mechanisms behind our behaviors, or their inertia.


The methodology is simple but powerful:

  • Identify a target behavior that one would like to adopt (or have adopted),

  • Explore the emotions at play,

  • Uncover the cognitive biases and beliefs that hinder this change.


A form of collective mapping of our resistances and our levers. And all this is done through listening, dialogue, and without injunction .


A helpful reminder

Our theme for today: the relationship with time . A hot topic for me, a self-employed worker often caught between the demand for impact and the temptation of perfectionism. Through our conversations, I reconnected with a belief that guides me without always being overt: time is money . Present, lurking in the background, it influences my decisions, directs my efforts, and sometimes fuels unnecessary tension.


But that's not all. The workshop also allowed me to delve into a question that is rarely addressed directly:

How do I prioritize what has value?

And more importantly: on what do I base this value?


Is it immediate profitability? Recognition? Comfort? A sense of purpose? This moment of collective introspection forced me to realize that my criteria for value are not always conscious. I sometimes invest a lot of time in tasks that only have value out of habit or conformity , and not because they have real meaning for me or my clients.


It is in this context that a phrase emerged, almost naturally, and which I keep as my compass:


“A clear intention creates more impact than an obsession with details.”

This is not a new lesson. It is a powerful reminder , a jolt of clarity.


A useful and necessary workshop

La Fresque du Facteur Humain is not a decorative exercise in personal development. It is a concrete tool for decoding our behaviors , for better understanding what hinders change, both within ourselves and in others. Useful for anyone who coaches, leads, facilitates, or trains .
